Nephew, you make me smile every single time. Okay, you can stop being so cute now. I mean it.

I love cloudy & quiet Saturday mornings. I also love a very nice cup of breakfast blend tea in the morning to start off the day just right.

Outnumbered & Teething

Yesterday I went to my sister Sarah’s house for a bit to hangout and to hopefully (and I mean hopefully) take some pictures of everyone. Alas, I think the photo gods were against us though. Bethany is not 100% these days, and Christopher is in the middle of a teething marathon. During the craziness that ensued we confirmed that you should never be outnumbered while trying to take photos of babies. Never. We desperately needed a cowboy-bottle-slinging-baby wrangler. Unfortunately though Bram (father to these lovely kids) was still at work.

Now for some photos. Here’s Christopher storming off set. He just was not having any of the  photo-taking tricks that he normally so easily accepts. (It’s okay, we forgive him. Only because who can stay mad at such a little man?)

We Try-2

Here’s poor little bethany giving us a taste of her lovely vocal cords. It’s okay, we totally forgive her too. She’s just so cute, so what can we even say?

We Try-6

Benjamin tried to make Bethany smile with the green elephant. It was not working, but it gave Sarah and I something to smile about. Benjamin is always eager to help. I love that about him.

We Try-4

The best part though is going with the flow, and enjoying little moments.

We Try-3

After taking about two hundred frames we called it quits and went inside to eat some cookies and try and console our tired spirits.

Please enjoy the few (and I mean precious few) photographs that turned out.

I love you guys. And I mean it! For reals.

Homemade baked applesauce with oatmeal, a nice cup of tea and reading Proverbs 25 to begin the morning. I also put a nice batch of stew in the slow-cooker for this weekend. Thankful for the blessings of food and family.

Vocabulary word for today: Captious – read the meaning here. I love words. You should too.

Jewelry + Friends = Good Times

Yesterday I did a little mini shoot for a jewelry designer from Norway named Virginie Lykins.

I got to hangout with two very sweet girls because of this. My friends Lydia Jane and Ashley Taylor. Both are really fun and both are very talented. Ashely is a hair and makeup artist. Ashley  is almost done with school and her designs are so beautiful! Lydia is a very gifted photographer herself, and is also in school. I have loved Lydia’s photography ever since  she was in high school!

I asked Lydia to model and Ashely to do hair and makeup. It worked out great. I had a blast!

Here are two outtake photos from the shoot-

Ashley did a super job with all of Lydia’s miles and miles of hair…

Thanks girls for all your help. It was so much fun.

Coffee + Portfolio Review

Posted: September 3rd, 2009 | 6 Comments »

This morning I am reviewing my new printed portfolio. This is a whole new thing to me since I have been shooting digital. I have been living in the digital world for so long now, but my photography history has roots in film and printing, and oh man, how I miss the dark room! I miss holding and seeing my own photographs, the smell of chemicals and the pains to make a print look just right. Pictures have such a different feel when they are printed. The papers, the colors and deep velvety blacks come off the paper in such a wonderful way. It’s like magic. Truly such a different experience then seeing an image on a computer screen.

As I am getting ready for meetings with other photographers and hopefully future clients I have made the leap to having a nice printed portfolio to show off my work. I love prints and seeing my work in the real world.

Here’s a little peek at my new portfolio. Hooray!
